Chicago Tree Lighting Ceremony and Thanksgiving Parade

Chicago kicks off the holiday season with the 98th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the Richard J. Daley Center Plaza. The star of this year’s show is a 55-foot Colorado Spruce from Western Springs. Musical performances and festive holiday music begin at 4:30 pm but the holiday season officially begins at 5:00 pm when the tree is lit with thousands of flickering lights. Afterwards the kids can meet with Santa at his workshop also in Daley Plaza, Visits with Santa Claus begin on Wednesday, November 23 at 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with special hours on Thanksgiving Day from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm. Santa’s regular visiting hours and house tours will begin on Friday, November 26 and continue every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through December 18 from 11:00 am - 8:00 pm. During Christmas week, December 19-24: the house will be open each day from 11:00 am – 8:00 pm, with special hours on Christmas Eve from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm

Don't miss the annual McDonald's Thanksgiving Parade which will take place on Thanksgiving Day, November 24th from 8:00am to 11:00am. Santa Claus, Ronald McDonald, marching bands, and a huge cast of gigantic inflatable balloons, will march down State Street from Congress to Randolph. This event is great fun for the whole family but for those who prefer to watch it from the comfort and warmth of their homes; WGN-Channel 9, Chicago will be broadcasting it live.
