White House Briefing Froomkin
Pleasant Memories
Some of the most pleasant memories from my child hood are of the excursions and adventures that I shared with my family while living in a place called Pond House in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. Pond House was located in a little valley on a dusty road near the village of Erin, NY.
Pond House was nothing more than a small two bedroom cabin that my parents had purchased following a brief move to the mountains of Colorado in the mid 1970’s. We moved to Pond House when I was three or four years old in about 1977. At that time Erin, NY was a quiet village with a small convenience store and a few small churches. The dirt road that Pond House was located on started down near the town of Erin and traveled in a large north south loop that ended near a small local dam known as the beaver pond. Our common activities while living at Pond House were swimming in the back yard pond during the summer months, hiking and hunting in the nearby forests, and any number of winter activities during the cold winter months.
What I Miss
These days I especially miss the hunting and fishing that we experienced during that time of our lives. In the summer months we would anxiously await my father’s arrival home from work so that we could pack up the truck and head out to one of the many small ponds or lakes in the surrounding hills.
